Tennessee .........

We've gotten caught twice now in a downpour while in a cemetery!!! The rain comes so quick that by the time we see if off in the distance & try to make a run for the car, it's already upon us.

Here is a cemetery that is the middle of a cow pasture ..... and there were cows in the pasture at the time! You can see the cemetery way off to the left of the picture. There was no fence around it and the cattle seemed to like that area for the shade. And we could see why, they were the only trees in the whole pasture. Consequently, the stones are completely oblitereated and could not be read ..... so sad that they are gone forever.

The little calves were friendly but wouldn't come too close. The 'big' cows seemed to stand sentry. There was one bull in their midst. If you're a farm person, you'll be able to pick him out about in the middle.

This is Pruitt-McCau Cemetery that the cows were living in! Seen from a distance. And this is what is left of the stones there. We read a write up on this cemetery from the local library and it said that years ago most of the stones were placed in a creek to use as stepping stones for the cattle to go across the creek. Some people just have no respect for history - or the dead for that matter.

We came upon an old, small cemetery here in Cornersville, TN & it was next to a farmhouse. The cemetery had no name to it so we knocked on the farmhouse door to ask if they knew. The 1st thing the lady said when she opened the door was, "Come on in"!! I would guess that was 'southern hospitality' at its best! Surprised me so much that I forgot what I wanted! Anyway, she said she knew everything there was to know about that cemetery & invited us in. Her husband soon joined us & we had a 2-hour chat with Bruce & Pauline.
