I can't believe it's already after the 4th of July!! We've been busy, busy. A shirt tale cousin of Johns came up from Missouri to meet us & we took them to the museum in Jerseyville. Remember the church we told y'all was being re-erected at the Genealogy Society & then they'll be putting those old tombstones we found last year by it? This is the church. The tombstones aren't there yet tho.
We were there on Sunday so nothing was open, but this is an old log cabin also on the Historical Society property.
Now on to 1 of the 6 very old, abandoned cemeteries here. This one is Luckey Ceme. and this is the field of corn we had to go thru to get to the cemetery. It's in those grove of trees.
Sure enough - there's a stone! We found 21 stone in all.
This is a picture of Moore Cemetery. A man had visited here in 1983 & took this picture.
Here we are today - same cemetery - horribly overgrown. I'm sure this is where John got his case of poison ivy this year! He's over it now tho.
Then we found this beautiful cemetery, so well cared for. It's also abandoned but the owners of the property keep it maintained.
And this wonderul one, too, also abandoned. A neighbor lady took it upon herself to keep it mowed. There were 18 stones in there.
This is back to Moore where we did have to dig some stones out.
These are 2 that we dug out.
Also, in Moore Cemetery, amidst all those weeds, vines, & poison ivy - a beautiful day lily.
