Remember my mention of Alyson, Jenn's friend in Doha? She was the very gracious young lady who spent some of her time taking me out & about when Jenn was working & Debbie was resting. This is my "thank you" to her. It was a fun little project & didn't take much time. Read the last photo below to learn about the "Windtowers" of the Middle-East.
"The Windtower House was an Iranian invention, brought to Dubai by merchants who made the U.A.E. their home. This is an early form of passive air conditioning, using sails inside the windtower to channel hot air out of the house and to force cooler air downwards. Unfortunately, the Bastakia, the quarter in Dubai once renowned for it windtowers, has now been razed to the ground. A few windtowers remain on buildings of dubious repair in the Dubai souk. Wear and tear will produce the same fate for them as their brothers in the Bastakia."
