We spent a day driving a scenic road that goes around Superstition Mountain near Phonix, AZ. I had a hard time picking out just a "few" pictures to post and I took 2 vidos, but they won't post - I'll try later for those. Over 22 miles of the drive were "Jeep" roads and 1-lane in many places. Highly, highly recommended.
We stopped first at Goldfield, an old mining town turned "tourist trap" but well worth the stop & fun. It's very much like Tombstone - gun fights in the streets, lots of gift shops, good food. We took a 20 minute train ride around the town with an informative narrative by the engineer.
We caught this spiel by Ron Feldman, an author, who writes historical fiction about this area. He's been looking for the "Lost Dutchman" mine since 1968 (as yet unfound by anyone) and other gold mines & has purchased several, which he has been able to withdraw quite a bit of gold over the years. It was an interesting talk.
In one spot of our drive, there were green tinged hills which like they were splashed with algae.
We drove by 3 lakes that had numerous campgrounds & lots of rigs parked in them. And lots of boats playing on the water.
We were very surprised when the pavement ended & we were driving on a dirt desert road! They didn't mention that (that I saw) in the brochure. But what fun with our Jeep!

.... and there were quite a few other vehicles on this 22 mile stretch, a lot were just regular cars.
Roosevelt Dam was at the end of the dirt road & we had pavement again.
